Welsh Corgi Pembroke

Introduction to the Welsh Corgi Pembroke
The Welsh Corgi Pembroke is a small, sturdy dog known for its intelligence and affectionate nature. Originating in Pembrokeshire, Wales, they were originally bred as herding dogs, driving cattle, sheep, and horses.
Pembroke Welsh Corgis are known for their short legs, fox-like face, and distinctive "fairy saddle" markings on their backs. They are energetic and playful dogs that require regular exercise and mental stimulation.
History of the Welsh Corgi Pembroke
The Pembroke Welsh Corgi is believed to have descended from the Vallhunds brought to Wales by Viking settlers in the 9th and 10th centuries. These dogs were crossbred with local Welsh dogs, resulting in the breed we know today.
Originally used as all-purpose farm dogs, they were skilled at herding livestock, guarding property, and controlling vermin. Their low stature allowed them to nip at the heels of cattle without being kicked.
The Pembroke Welsh Corgi gained royal favour when Queen Elizabeth II acquired her first Corgi in 1933. Since then, the breed has become increasingly popular worldwide.
