Belgian Shepherd

The Belgian Shepherd Dog is a versatile and intelligent breed known for its loyalty, herding abilities, and protective nature. In the late 1800s, Belgium was home to a variety of shepherd dogs with differing coat types and appearances. Professor Adolphe Reul, a professor at the Belgian School of Veterinary Medicine, played a crucial role in standardizing the breed. He identified the shared characteristics and worked towards creating distinct varieties within the Belgian Shepherd Dog breed.

The first breed standard was established in 1891, and the Belgian Shepherd Dog Club was founded shortly after. Over time, the four varieties were selectively bred to refine their appearances and maintain their working abilities. They quickly gained recognition for their intelligence, versatility, and unwavering loyalty.
