American Curl

The American Curl breed originated in 1981, when two stray kittens with curly ears were found in Lakewood, California. These kittens, a black female named Shulamith and a brown tabby male named Panda, were taken in by a local couple, Grace and Joe Ruga. The Rugas were immediately smitten with the kittens' unique ears, and they decided to start a breeding program to develop the American Curl breed.

The American Curl was first recognized by the Cat Fanciers' Association (CFA) in 1983, and it has since gained popularity around the world. The American Curl is now recognized by all major cat registries.
